Siobhán
Parkinson is the award-winning author of many books for young
readers. She lives in Dublin with her woodturner husband
Roger Bennett and their son Matthew, her personal proofreader.
Siobhán studied English literature and worked as an editor
in the publishing and computer industries, and is currently
Editor of Bookbird, Journal of International Children’s Literature.

Roddy Doyle was born in Dublin in 1958. He is the author of The
Barrytown Trilogy which includes The Commitments, The
Snapper and The Van (Secker & Warburg 1992).
He has also written Rory and Ita, a memoir of his parents.
He won the Booker Prize in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (Jonathan
Cape). Other titles include The Woman Who Walked Into Doors (Secker & Warburg,1996); A
Star Called Henry (Secker & Warburg,1999) and Oh,
Play that Thing (Jonathan Cape, 2004). He has also written
books for children including The Meanwhile Adventures andRover
Saves Christmas (both pubilshed by Scholastic).

Marita Conlon-McKenna was born in Dublin in 1956. Growing
up, Marita was always fascinated by the Famine period in
Irish history and read everything available on the subject.
When she heard a radio report of an unmarked children's grave
from the Famine period being found under a hawthorn tree,
she decided to write her first book, Under the Hawthorn Tree.
Marita has won several awards, including the International
Reading Association Award, the Osterreichischer Kinder
und Jugendbuchpreis, the Reading Association of Ireland
Award and the Bisto Book of the Year Award.

Aubrey Flegg was born in Dublin and spent his early childhood
in County Sligo, Ireland. He went to school in Dublin and later
in England. After a spell with a mountain rescue team in Scotland,
he returned to Ireland to study geology at Trinity College.
He carried out geological research in Kenya, before joining
the Geological Survey of Ireland in 1968.
His first book, Katie's War, is about the civil war
period in Ireland; it was published in 1997. Katie's War received
the Peter Pan Award 2000. Wings Over Delft,
the first book in the Louise trilogy, won the Bisto Book of the
Year overall award in 2004, and was followed in 2005 by The
Rainbow Bridge (O’Brien Press).
